“As a 10-year-old with a sketchbook of yacht designs, I was already envisioning the sleek lines and elegant structures that have now become our signature.” Ivan Erdevicki has come a long way since childhood in Montenegro, where he started drawing boats in his school books. With headquarters in British Columbia, his ER Yacht Design studio is celebrating 25 years in business.
That quarter century of providing naval-architecture, styling, and interior-design services further has roots in formal training. Erdevicki studied naval architecture in his native country, for starters. Then, he studied mechanical engineering at UCLA in Los Angeles. The prestigious Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology in Maine came next, where Erdevicki immersed himself in yacht design. He further immersed himself in the field working directly for some yacht builders, including Delta Marine in Seattle.

Opening his own studio in 2000 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Erdevicki continued producing superyacht designs in collaboration with several builders. Burger Boat Company and Icon Yachts, for instance, each created concept designs with him. The Gotham Project (above) is among the Icon Yachts’ designs, in fact. She gets her name from her upper deck structures resembling bat ears. But, not every creation from the drawing tables was an ultra-large luxury yacht. Erdevicki designed the KingCat 80, Kingship’s first catamaran.
According to Erdevicki, who remains chief designer today, the studio has gone on to produce upwards of 300 deliveries. Similarly, the studio staff has grown. Pedja Vukovic is the design manager for all interiors, while Aleksa Kovinic is the head naval architect. Furthermore, the studio has a second office in Porto Montenegro, therefore making client meetings in the Med region easier.

As for client meetings, the requests include contemporary-looking superyachts and high-performance yachts upwards of 394 feet (120 meters) LOA. “Our commitment has always been to blend simplicity with sophistication,” Erdevicki says.
