Although it might seem strange, transporting a large luxury yacht along streets isn’t all that unusual in some yacht-building cities. The first Baglietto DOM115 yacht worked her way to the water in La Spezia, Italy, for her official launch within the past week.
As part of the DOM series, the DOM115 is a displacement yacht for leisurely, intimate, homey cruising. (The name comes from domus, Latin for “home.”) The outward appearance of her steel hull and aluminum superstructure is from Studio Vafiadis. It’s sporty yet also hints at the feeling of airiness inside, thanks to a plumb bow and full-height glass. Internal volume is 298 gross tons. Fabio Ermetto, Baglietto’s CCO, called attention to the roominess during the launch ceremony. “We have the feeling this model will be a great success, as it combines the features of a much larger yacht with the operational advantages of a 35m,” he says.

Besides inaugurating a new series, the launch of the first Baglietto DOM115 yacht “marks an important step toward greater accessibility to high-end customization,” Ermetto further says. Although Studio Vafiadis created the original DOM115 interior concept and can collaborate with clients, the owner of hull number one worked with Baglietto’s in-house department. In emphasizing the broad choices owners have for the arrangement and décor, Ermetto adds, “It’s a design philosophy that opens the brand to a broader audience.”
Throughout her decks, this superyacht shows off oak paneling and walnut parquet flooring, for instance. There’s an overall ambience of warmth, too, especially from bronze tones and leather. Adding elegance and simultaneously contrast, the owner requested marble flooring adjacent to some of the parquet wood. Specifically, swirls and veins of blue from Calacatta Blu and Iceberg Blue marble catch your eye. Additionally, flat and fluted glass and bronzed mirrors add visual interest and create a transition as guests leave the saloon to head below decks to their staterooms. Adding to the drama, blue lacquer frames the areas. Altogether, the décor is a modern version of the highly ornamental Liberty style, the Italian version of Art Nouveau.
Of course, not forgetting that the Baglietto DOM115 yacht series is for alfresco enjoyment, the aft deck is three closely connected levels. A pool is on the lowest level. Even the upper-deck lounge becomes more of an outdoor space as well, thanks to the wrap-around glass fully opening.
Another DOM115 is under construction on spec, which will be ready for cruising next year. Like this first launch, she features MAN engines, though Baglietto can incorporate hybrid propulsion on future hulls.
