For decades, owners of boats and yachts of all sizes have christened their craft for family. While unusual, some famous locations are on nameboards, too. In honor of America’s most significant holiday, here’s a handful of superyachts named for U.S. states.
Janice of Wyoming
No list of superyachts named for U.S. states is complete without this sailing superyacht. If there were any doubt, check her sails. You’ll see a cowboy on a bucking bronco. Not surprisingly, the owner is from Wyoming, a.k.a. the Cowboy State. Equally noteworthy, some of the stone surfaces aboard this 130-footer (39.72-meter) utilize fossils from the state. Janice of Wyoming is a regular racer in the annual Millennium Cup in New Zealand and cruises mostly in New Zealand, too. That’s also where she saw construction, at Alloy Yachts.
New York
If New York is one of the best places to watch Fourth of July fireworks, then maybe the owners of the yacht New York eventually will head there. Her silvery paint job would complement the New York City skyline quite nicely. Just delivered this year, the megayacht is the latest addition to Sanlorenzo’s SX100 series (sistership below). Currently, she’s enjoying the waters of the Med, where she’s available for charter for eight guests.

Texas
Superyachts named for U.S. states simply must include one of the biggest states, right? The 146-foot (44.6-meter) yacht Texas actually launched with this name in 1984. Subsequent owners throughout the years changed it, until the most recent owner changed it back. However, similar to Janice of Wyoming, she doesn’t spend time stateside. Instead, she’s often in Australia. Her builder is Turquoise Yachts (Proteksan Turquoise at launch).
Virginian
The city of Charlottesville, Virginia was near and dear to the heart of the original owner of Virginian. The late John Kluge, an American TV mogul and at one time one of the wealthiest Americans, lived and died there. He commissioned this 204-footer (62.23-meter) from Feadship, taking delivery in 1990. Among her most intriguing characteristics: a library with a fireplace. Yet another interesting fact, she was the first Feadship with four full decks. Despite passing through multiple owners, the yacht has always borne the same name.
