For the Owner of the Yacht Jangada, the Third Time’s the Charm

The carefully choreographed move of the yacht Jagada out from her build shed into the water started late one evening. By the following bright and sunny day, she was floating on her lines outside of Van der Valk Shipyard’s facilities in The Netherlands. This new stylish superyacht represents the third collaboration between the yard and the same owner.

In fact, the owner took delivery of his first custom yacht from Van der Valk Shipyard in 2013. She was an 82-footer (25-meter), which also bore the name Jangada. Styling and interior design came from Nick Trop and Guido de Groot—both Dutch, like the shipyard. Interestingly, this first Jangada was among the first raised-pilothouse motoryachts from the shipyard. Then, the 105-foot (32-meter) Jangada 2 became Van der Valk’s largest launch in 2019. The owner worked with the just-mentioned design studios for that build, too.

Although both megayachts suited his lifestyle—including a daily morning swim—his family has grown. In fact, cruising with his grandchildren as well as his adult children is a priority. Therefore, the new Jangada is nearly 118 feet (36 meters) and has a third deck. Naturally, she affords good space below decks for his family’s staterooms, plus a gym. Prime, full-beam real estate on the main deck, meanwhile, is for his suite. The new size simultaneously is better for the berth he’s had for a while in St. Tropez.

Between 8’5” (2.6-meter) ceiling heights, big glass windows, and whitewashed wood, the interior feels ample and airy. The youngest and oldest family members will enjoy unobstructed views from inside the saloon, too, plus the wheelhouse. In fact, the wheelhouse will transform into a second lounge for everyone, since the screens along the dashboard all can tuck away.

One more fun-focused amenity aboard Jangada is simultaneously a noteworthy engineering accomplishment. The owner requested a sizable jetted pool on the flying bridge. Specifically, it’s about 15 feet (4.5 meters) long and holds 1,900 gallons (7,200 liters) of water. Van der Valk Shipyard had to perform further stability calculations due to the water volume being so high up. The shipyard also determined that the best place for the warm-water tank feeding the pool would be beneath the tender garage.

Sea trials should start soon and should confirm a best range of 2,600 nautical miles at a leisurely 10-knot cruising speed.
