Yacht Zembra Launches for 12 Grandchildren & 1 World of Adventure

“Zembra pushed our team in the best ways,” says Michelle Jones, Delta Marine’s vice president. “It’s been a project full of both challenges and rewards.” Challenges and rewards are what the owners have in mind for themselves, too, when they begin cruising aboard their globetrotting superyacht.

Having just launched at Delta Marine’s Seattle shipyard, the yacht Zembra is a 152-footer (46-meter) for heading to remote regions. In fact, the husband says, “The goal is to take us on all these adventures.” He adds, “I have 12 grandkids who need to see all the places that we’ve seen, including the South Pacific and Brazil and the Med and all of that.” Further areas reachable only by sea are on the itinerary, too. That’s why “Zembra isn’t just a yacht,” he continues. The whole idea is “getting to experience these places again through their eyes and exploring many new ones.”

Because of this, the owners had quite specific ideas in mind for the design and performance. For instance, with the shipyard’s own naval architecture and design teams, they outfitted the megayacht with a helipad, plus space for an ICON A5 amphibious aircraft. Since beneath-the-surface exploring is important to them as well, a U-Boat Worx sub sits aboard. For pure fun, two PWCs, a Williams Jet Tender, several other watertoys, and a FunAir slide stow in a dedicated garage. Hefty-capacity cranes on the bridge deck and stern help the 10-person crew handle the bigger craft.

The non-traditional metallic Arizona bronze paint outside hints at what lies in store inside. The interior designer Roger Thomas, renowned for his work with Las Vegas resorts, collaborated with the owners. Additionally known for playing with classic motifs and shapes as well as leveraging enticing colors, Thomas chose bold-patterned and colored carpet for an eye-catching complement to the interior of Zembra. Custom cerused oak and stainless steel accents flow throughout the decks.

Furthermore, spaces suit a multi-generational family and prioritize comfort while on extended cruising. Five staterooms are aboard, one of which is wheelchair-accessible. Family members might not need one of the guest cabins on occasion, though. In that case, it converts to a fitness room, thanks to two pullman berths stowing away. Furthermore, an elevator connects the lower deck to the upper deck for ease of movement. This way the family can gather for alfresco dining aft on the bridge deck, or sit on Zembra’s sundeck and take in the scenery.
