There was no joking around on April Fool’s Day at Heesen Yachts. That’s when the 163’4” (49.8-meter) megayacht known as project Akoya slipped into the water.
As part of Heesen’s 50-meter semi-displacement series, project Akoya bears styling by Omega Architects. Heesen sent the image above several months ago, following the joining of the hull and superstructure. The image below is the only new one it has provided of her for now, perhaps to draw attention to her grey hull.
Heesen is additionally keeping quiet on the interior design details. Cristiano Gatto Design, which the yard tapped for the project when construction began on spec, collaborated with the owner on the accommodations for 12. The 29’6”-beam (9-meter-beam) boat follows tradition in terms of her general arrangement. This places the master suite forward on the main deck. Two double guest staterooms and two twins accompany a full-beam VIP below decks.
Alfresco areas also follow tradition. A sundeck is reserved for relaxation. The same, plus dining, will take place aft on the upper deck. The foredeck should be a fine place for cocktails or small get-togethers, too. Project Akoya rises a total of four decks.
Project Akoya is set for a top speed of 23 knots (under half load), impressive for her LOA. Heesen further anticipates her best range will come at 11 knots: 3,100 nautical miles. The figures will be confirmed via sea trials, taking place in the coming weeks.
Given a draft of 8’2” (2.5 meters), Project Akoya may remain at anchor at times after delivery and let her tenders do the work of transferring guests for shore excursions. Hand-over is set for June.
