A year after she was unveiled, the first semi-custom megayacht from Blohm+Voss is under construction. The BV80 began build for one simple notion: to reduce delivery time in a size range where upwards of three years is the norm. And, since construction is on spec, there’s abundant time to acquire her and customize the interior.
The keel laying for the 262-foot (80-meter) BV80 occurred in December. This, following a year’s worth of engineering, not unusual for the scale of this megayacht. In the photo below, the assembled Blohm+Voss staff lend a sense of scale for some of the steel hull plating. The first three hull sections are now nearly finished. Due to the engineering phase’s completion and construction’s commencement, the BV80 can be delivered 30 months following a contract signing.
Eidsgaard Design is handling styling and interior design. To jumpstart conversations about how the BV80 can be configured, Blohm+Voss has released new visuals for the beach club (below) and other relaxation areas (bottom). The suggested arrangement situates six guest staterooms on the main deck, as a combination of doubles, twins, and twins with pullmans. An alternate idea: have one or two sets of adjacent staterooms be suites instead, with private sitting areas. Meanwhile, the BV80 master suite, up one deck, can have his-and-her dressing areas plus two baths. Or, it can include a staff cabin or nursery.
Overall, there’s nearly 42 feet (12.8 meters) of beam to tailor to your wishes. The beach club is ideal as a wellness area, with seating space and a spa. Avid watersports enthusiasts can swap out the spa for a tricked-out toy and dive center. The open transom platform then becomes the tender departure and arrival area.
With technical systems and performance already calculated by Blohm+Voss, the BV80 is appealing to megayacht buyers who’d rather focus on creature comforts and room arrangements. Anticipate a 16-knot cruise speed and 6,000-nautical-mile range at 12 knots. A crew of 23 will keep operations going.
