Earlier today I visited Heesen Yachts, where 17 boats are on the order books for completion from this fall through summer 2011. One of them is 101, the black-hulled semidisplacement yacht seen here, which in October will become the second delivery in the yard’s new 4400 series. It’s hard to see here, but trust me when I say craftsmen were on every deck level installing interior paneling, connecting electrical systems, and the like.
While many of the already-installed decor items were covered to protect against errant scratches and dings, I spied a few places that left no doubt the final effect would be dramatic. Black leather and/or black velvet cover some overheads and walls, and there’s abundant use of polished stainless steel and mirrors.
In fact, there’s so much polished stainless steel and mirrors that I hope guests will be mindful of what they touch and the crew will be populated with neat-nicks: The circular stairwell leading from the main deck down to the guest accommodations is lined with dozens upon dozens of square mirrors, and the main-deck day head appeared to be one giant mirror as well. And that’s not counting the mirrored headboards or the polished stainless steel foot boards in the guest staterooms.
It’s quite a departure from the interior of Sedation, the first 4400, which features bamboo wall paneling and (fitting for her name) sedate tones of cream and browns. Unfortunately, you won’t get a chance to see Sedation at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show, as was originally planned, since her owner sold her shortly after delivery and the new owner wishes to keep her private. Heesen is working on presenting a different yacht in her place.
