February 19 was a big day for Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT), for that’s when it made its first yacht delivery to Dubai. You’re looking at the loaded bay of Lady Gloria, which delivered a 105-foot Mangusta and a custom 30-foot limousine tender from Royal Denship to the port of Jebel Ali.
DYT is now featuring the port of Jebel Ali among its regular routes because Dubai and other Middle Eastern regions represent important growth sectors in the yacht and megayacht business. In fact, this trip was timed to guarantee arrival ahead of the Dubai International Boat Show, which begins March 11. It began in mid-January in Port Everglades, Florida, with a stop in Genoa, Italy.
In anticipation of the demand that would come from those Middle Eastern markets, and because DYT already has so many routes worldwide–Brazil, the USA, Italy, and Denmark among them–last year the yacht-transport company decided to partner with BBC Chartering and Logistics for the Dubai routes. (Lady Gloria is a BBC-owned vessel, though the loading masters who oversaw the yachts’ arrival and offloading were the same who manage DYT’s services.) While DYT’s vessels feature semisubmersible bays that allow for float-on and float-off transportation, BBC’s feature more traditional lift-on and lift-off service.
DYT plans just a few more trips to Dubai this spring, after which you’ll have to wait nearly a year for the next ones. If you’re interested in booking a space, here’s the schedule:
