If you’ll be attending this month’s Monaco Yacht Show, keep your eyes open for Villa Reis, the newest launch from Mondomarine. She’s actually making her formal debut at the Cannes boat show just prior to Monaco, but the 129-foot megayacht, which Mondomarine likes to call a “little ship,” is the prototype for what the Italian yard expects will be a successful series.
Considering how many of the debuts at the Monaco Yacht Show the past few years have been above the 150-foot mark, Villa Reis’ smaller size will definitely make her stand out. So will her styling: Note the decided lack of a sundeck in the drawing here as well as the circular shape of the pilothouse, forward on her top deck. Mondomarine says it opted not to create a sundeck to make Villa Reis’ shape more streamlined and commanding. Another unusual feature: The positioning of the Jacuzzi toward the bow. Since there’s no sundeck, and since the shipyard wished to preserve aft spaces for sitting and dining, the bow was the best choice.
Inside things are a bit more traditional, with a layout by Luca Dini. Four guest staterooms are on the lower deck, and the owner’s suite, complete with a study, is on the main deck, where it can make the most of the yacht’s 28’2″ beam. There’s a gym along with the captain’s cabin just aft of the wheelhouse. Two doubles and one single round out the crew cabins, all below decks.
The semidisplacement, seven-foot-draft Villa Reis tops out at 18 knots, according to Mondomarine, thanks to twin 1,500-hp MTU 12V2000M91s. While she cruises at 16 knots, the yard says 12 knots is a more economical speed, permitting an 1,800-mile range.
