Talk with any yacht owner or crewmember who’s cruised Croatia, and he or she will likely tell you it’s akin to stepping back in time to old Europe. National Geographic Adventure magazine even named the Croatian coast as a top sailing destination in 2006.
These and other factors are what Island Global Yachting (IGY) and Nautical Center Prgin (NCP) expect will entice megayachts to the newly opened Mandalina Marina & Yacht Club. IGY, which operates marinas around the world, and NCP, a collection of marine businesses and a leader in the Med, joined forces to co-brand the 350-slip marina–and even expand it further.
Mandalina Marina & Yacht Club can accommodate yachts to 280 feet and is located in Šibenik, a historic city that is also home to Cathedral Sveti Jakov (a.k.a. St. James Cathedral), listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s additionally a 40-minute drive from Split International Airport and Zadar airport. Sailing-yacht captains and owners whose vessels draw six meters (about 19’7”) should have no problem pulling in. And power and sailing superyachts alike will appreciate how the marina is sheltered from northern bora winds (typically cold and gusty) by the peninsula it’s situated on, and a strong breakwater protects it from southern jugo winds (a.k.a. sirocco, which can reach hurricane strength).
An additional 50 drydock berths plus 24-hour security, Wi-Fi, telephone connections at the in-water slips, a sailing school, fueling station, grocery store, laundry facilities, and even nearby refit and repair services are other highlights of the new marina.
To further entice megayachts, Mandalina Marina & Yacht Club is offering a special savings package for the summer season. Book before April 15, and you’ll receive 10 percent off a stay between May 1 and October 31; pay in advance, and take an extra five percent off.
As for future plans, IGY and NCP intend to add 65 more megayacht slips, and, although it’s in the initial planning stage, they’re additionally considering the creation of a marina village featuring residences, resort accommodations, shopping, dining, and nightlife.
