On the heels of the launch of its first yacht, Africa, Sunrise Yachts has started construction on a new series with yacht stylist Espen Øino and interior designer Franck Darnet. The drawings here are of the initial member of that series, a 47-meter (154-footer).
While Sunrise released word about the collaboration last fall (see this story), it held back full details and most drawings until now. If you take a close look at the illustrations, you’ll note a decided emphasis on bringing the outside in, through the use of large expanses of glass as windows and skylights, plus, as the illustration below depicts, the use of drop-down balconies. The one shown here is off the saloon.

There are also two different layouts for owners to choose from. The first features all four guest staterooms and the full-beam master suite on the main deck, to make the most of the views while cruising. In addition, floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights in the master are intended to make the owner feel even closer to the sea. In the second arrangement, the owner’s suite takes over nearly the entire upper deck, with the main deck serving the more traditional roles of relaxation, entertaining, and dining. In either configuration, light tones for fabrics should enhance the airy feeling.
Chances are you’re more than familiar with Øino’s work, given several standout projects such as Skat and Princess Mariana. Darnet may be lesser known in superyacht circles, but he certainly has made a mark in the overall boating business. He has designed the interiors of both power and sail yachts, including ones by Lazzara Yachts and Beneteau. It’s also worth noting that Brilliant Boats, a naval-architecture consultancy firm, will be responsible for on-site engineering for the 47-meter.
Delivery is anticipated for June 2011. Future yachts in the new series include 52-, 57-, and 65-meter models (171-, 187-, and 213-footers), with the goal of one delivery per summer. All are being marketed with Camper & Nicholsons, just as Africa – which debuts at the Monaco Yacht Show – and other current projects have been.
