If you’ve ever fretted over whether to feature a Jacuzzi or full-size pool on the foredeck vs. aft deck, borrow a page from the new Palmer Johnson 210. The project puts pools in both places.
All kidding aside, the builder and Nuvolari & Lenard, which collaborates with Palmer Johnson on most of its projects, decided to up the ante on relaxation spaces. Furthermore, they wanted to appeal to the generation of buyers who live more casual lifestyles. At least one client liked the combination of ideas and signed on for hull number one.
The 210 will be the largest thus far in Palmer Johnson’s Sport Yacht lineup, which includes a 120, 135, 150, and 170, all built in series. In fact, if you’re familiar with any or all of those open-style megayachts, you’ll note that the 210 bears some resemblance. There’s a decided emphasis on flowing, sleek lines and spacious deck areas. She has the most in common with the 170, though – specifically, the nearly vertical bow and the round ports (though the 170 has just two on each side, not four).
Those round ports should make the main-deck master suite light and airy, as should a fold-down balcony. For sunning, disappearing stairs in the mast yield access to a secluded sundeck at the very top of the yacht. The rest of the trideck layout allows for two saloons, a formal dining room, and a private cinema. The four guest staterooms, all on the lower deck, are steps away from a gym, sauna, and sea terrace.
Speaking of sea terraces, Palmer Johnson can alternately arrange the 210 to have more of a beach club atmosphere on the main deck. This would involve moving the dining room up one deck – a change I think will attract at least one future client, as it is distinctly different.
As for the two pools, should the owner decide the aft one is enough, a sliding cover can conceal the forward one and make it a helipad instead.
Hull number one (name withheld) should debut next spring.
