If your calendar is open this coming Saturday, you can inspect the second yacht that Super Yacht Auction has up for bid. If you can’t make it, don’t worry: You can submit a bid to acquire her right now.
Liberty S, a 37-meter (121-foot) motoryacht, was built in 1955 by Picchiotti (now owned by Perini Navi). In fact, she was the yard’s first launch, commissioned by the Innocenti family, which founded Lambretta scooters. She was used as a private yacht for nearly all of her years, except for a period where she was registered as a French merchant naval vessel. Refits occurred at least once each decade from the 1970s through 2005. According to a brokerage listing on JamesList.com last October, her cedar-planked hull (with copper sheathing below the waterline) needed new paint, and her interior would benefit from a refreshed design. No mention was made of the condition of either the aluminum wheelhouse or the teak decks.
Liberty S has accommodations for 11 people, including the owner, in seven staterooms. Seeing as she hosted large corporate events over the years – some featuring 200 guests – she should be capable of doing the same today.
Super Yacht Auction expects Liberty S to be awarded for €500,000 to €650,000 (approximately $675,450 to $878,100). As a point of comparison, the brokerage asking price was €1.5 million (approximately $2.03 million). Bidding remains open through April 5. If you wish to see the yacht, inspection will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Marina Napoléon in Port Saint Louis, France. All bids are irrevocable and unconditional, and the yacht is being sold as is.
On a related note, Super Yacht Auction’s first yacht auction did not close. The 100-foot schooner garnered a high bid of €800,000 ($1.08 million), but it was not awarded. Negotiations are ongoing.
