The song “Remember When,” by Alan Jackson, is a great musing on a couple’s time together over the years. While it leans more toward teary-eyed nostalgia, it does share similarities with the newest launch from Christensen Shipyards, also named Remember When. The 162-footer was christened this to reflect all the fun, even funny, times owner John Rosatti and his friends have had aboard his various yachts.
That’s what I learned from an exclusive conversation with Rosatti just last week, for an article I’m writing for an upcoming issue of Yachting magazine. Remember When hit the water at Christensen a few days prior to that, the latest in the yard’s custom composite series.
Megayacht watchers will know Rosatti from his previous boats, the most recent of which is a 157-footer, also from Christensen, named Nice ‘N’ Easy. Remember When’s longer length is mostly noticeable on the sundeck, so that Rosatti could stow more watertoys there. Inside, he and designer Carol Williamson upped the ante on the décor, using a good deal of Polar Black marble. A mostly black stone with white veins running through it, the marble spans the length of the countertops in the galley as well as its sole and adorns nightstands in the owner’s suite and five guest staterooms. Christensen has been doing all stone work in-house for the past few years, and John Lance, the yard’s marketing director, told me during a tour of the yacht that the execution aboard Remember When could very well be the most intricate it has done to date.
Extensive sea trials are currently underway, particularly to test a dynamic-positioning-like system that Rosatti requested. It marks a first for Christensen. “We’re excited about it,” Rosatti says, adding that he anticipated flying out to the yard to see its operation in person prior to delivery.
Yachting has the exclusive cover story on Remember When, so I’ll post an update and link when it’s available.
