Talk about ending one year and beginning another on the right feet: Heesen Yachts sealed a deal for a 51-meter (167-footer) last December and a deal for a 50-meter (164-footer) last month.
Known for now as YN 16551 (above), the steel-hulled 51-meter will emphasize long-range cruising when she’s delivered in 2014. Omega Architects has styled her to further emphasize alfresco enjoyment and indoor-outdoor living. Inside, Mojo Stumer, the same interior design firm whose first yacht project was the 50-meter Heesen Sky, promises an attention-grabbing decor. Mark Stumer, a principal of Mojo Stumer, terms the owner an “avant-garde client” who wants the benefits of a luxury home within a framework that “will explore the limits of modern yacht interiors.”
Something that definitely pushes the concept of traditional yacht design aside: the gym. Not only is it huge, measuring 70 square meters (753 square feet), but also it’s forward on the main deck. The owner’s suite is in turn relocated to the aft portion of the bridge deck, with a private deck area and hot tub. Another unusual design element: the sundeck being enclosed on three sides. The idea is protection from wind, though it benefits from light thanks to windows fully forward.
Not everything about YN 16551 will be unusual, though. Ten guests are housed below decks in four staterooms, two of which have Pullman berths. And, due to her full-displacement design and twin MTU diesels, she should achieve a top speed of 15.6 knots. Dialed back to 12 knots, she’ll see a range of 3,200 nautical miles.
As for the 50-meter project signed in January, known as YN 15850 (above), construction had already begun several months ago, on a spec basis. Therefore, the all-aluminum yacht should be handed over at the end of this year. Highlights include accommodations for 12 in six staterooms, including a full-beam VIP and full-beam owner’s suite. The master should be a sight to see, featuring a bronze-wrapped fireplace and a library. Unlike YN 16551, though, it will be in the traditional location, forward on the main deck.
Other features: a circular skylounge, with 270-degree views; a split-level sundeck that separates the hot tub from relaxation/sunning areas and a bar; and an anticipated top speed of 23 knots, thanks to MTU power. The interior decor from Omega Architects and Italy-based furnishings maker Domusnova stresses hand-hewn wood paneling plud sculpted settees and the like. Since the owner plans to cruise year-round in a variety of conditions, the overall goal is to create the comforts of home.
Heesen says these projects bring it current construction roster to 15 yachts, with deliveries through 2014.
