On the heels of breaking ground on a new megayacht-building facility, Holland-based Mulder Shipyard has signed the first project to be built in it.
The 98 Flybridge illustrated here, from the drawing boards of Guido de Groot Design, is the ideal project to “christen” the new construction shed. It’s partly because the new shed is intended for yachts of 28 meters (92 feet) and larger. But it’s also because the Flybridge line is one of Mulder’s most popular offerings, with four sizes besides the 98 (all smaller, however). Flybridge models have also been delivered to clients all over the globe, from the Middle East to the South Pacific, Europe to Russia.
Interesting enough, a Russian client commissioned this 98 Flybridge. Highlights include four staterooms below decks, including the VIP suite and the owner’s suite. The latter lies beyond the three vertical elliptical windows you see in the profile illustration. Walnut paneling will line the walls throughout the interior, including the starboard-side dining area on the main deck, opposite the galley. For convenience in loading provisions, the galley has direct side-deck access. Also for convenience, the two crew cabins are immediately aft of the engine room and connect to it.
If the owner so wishes, the tender can be stowed on the flybridge. But given the space to be devoted to loose furnishings and a wetbar with a grill, he could relegate it to the swim platform.
No need to make a decision over performance, though. Mulder says the 98 Flybridge should top out at 22 knots, given 1,600-hp Caterpillar engines. Dialed back to 10 knots, she should see a 4,500-nautical-mile range.
Delivery of the all-aluminum, Lloyds-classed megayacht is set for early to mid-2013.
