A year after announcing its WallyAce motoryacht series, Wally has two megayachts under construction for completion next year.
WallyAce, which was originally called Wallyship, is available in an 86-foot (26.23-meter) model and a 118-foot (36-meter) model. Both of the WallyAces under construction are the smaller of the two models, though one has three staterooms below decks, while the other has four.
The three-stateroom layout is one of the features that truly sets the WallyAce apart. In it, the full-beam master suite, aft on the lower deck, is adjacent to a private alfresco terrace. The bed faces aft, too, maximizing the impact of the views through the floor-to-ceiling glass. (You can see some of that glass toward the bottom of the image below.) The master is accompanied by two guest staterooms just forward.
Of course, the four-stateroom layout of hull number two, with two cabins occupying the full-beam space that hull number one devotes to the master, still benefit from a different design approach. Take a close look at the profile illustration, and you’ll see long horizontal windows. These should brighten the WallyAce’s guest quarters much more than traditional ports aboard similar-size yachts. (On a related side note, Edmiston & Company has hull number two available for sale, for €5.475 million, or $7.533 million.)
Regardless of layout, the WallyAce reflects additional design elements not found aboard other yachts in this size range. The sundeck encompasses much more space, for example. It’s the entire superstructure’s surface, coming in at 635 square feet (59 square meters). A forward “cockpit” on the main deck doubles the amount of alfresco dining and relaxation space on that level. Inside, teak paneling and soles, polished steel, and glass highlight the 25-foot (7.75-meter) beam.
Performance further sets the WallyAce apart. The series was conceived in response to buyers’ desire for more economical fuel burn and leisurely cruising. Therefore, the WallyAces under construction each feature twin 350-hp Caterpillar C12 engines. These should permit a 2,400-nautical-mile range at the 10-knot cruising speed. At that same speed, the WallyAce is expected to burn about 13.7 gallons per hour (52 liters per hour.) Top speed is 12 knots.
UDPATE, JANUARY 27, 2012: Wally has revealed additional details about WallyAce:
- the yacht will feature 1,378 square feet (128 square meters) of alfresco space
- she’ll have a 441-square-foot (41-square-meter) saloon
- overall, the WallyAce will reportedly be at least 30 percent larger than its competitors’ offerings
- the WallyAce can be run by an owner-operator, without the need for full-time crew
