The first of Taiwan-based Monte Fino’s 85 ecHo megayachts is making her way to Europe, for her formal debut at the Düsseldorf boat show in January.
Construction on the new model, designed by Humphreys Yacht Design, started in 2010. Like other Monte Fino yachts and megayachts, the 85 ecHo is all fiberglass. What sets her apart is a decided focus on lower emissions, better fuel economy, and more eco-friendly concepts. In fact, “ecHo” is a play on words intended to reflect that environmentally aware philosophy, with the “H” added in to reflect Humphreys’ name.
Monte Fino says the yacht is even more efficient than the original tank-test results predicted. Initially, the builder expected a 9-knot cruise and 2,776-nautical-mile range at that speed. During sea trials, the yard reports, cruise speed was 12 knots, and range at 8.6 knots translated to about 4,000 nautical miles. Power is from twin 715-hp Cummins engines, versus the 800-hp MANs first planned. Top speed during sea trials was also impressive, reportedly more than 16½ knots.
While photos are not yet available of the interior, the Monte Fino 85 ecHo decor is by Giorgia Drudi, who previously worked with Ferretti. Three guest cabins, including a VIP, and a full-beam master are accompanied by crew’s quarters for four.
Monte Fino is sold via Hargrave Custom Yachts in the USA.
