The steel structure on the back of the truck in the photo is the hull of a Maxima 47 megayacht model, built by Admiral Tecnomar. The 154-footer (47-meter, hence the name) is an extended version of the Maxima 45 series the shipyard announced some time ago. Admiral Tecnomar transferred the hull the night of February 7 from its Massa, Italy facility to that of Nuovi Cantieri Apuania (NCA), which it acquired in December.
NCA, located in nearby Marina di Carrara, isn’t a name most in the yachting industry know. It specialized in ship construction, such as ferries, and was put up for sale by Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development last year due to the economic crisis. Admiral Tecnomar was among a handful of bidders (which, interesting enough, also included Ocean Independence, the brokerage and charter firm). Admiral Tecnomar saw the acquisition of NCA as a way to gain greater flexibility in building megayachts measuring 164 feet (50 meters) and up. Admiral Tecnomar plans for NCA to continue pursuing shipbuilding, but it will also build and refit megayachts, too.
As for the Admiral Maxima 47, she’s a full-displacement, trideck design. Admiral Tecnomar allows clients to customize the interior. Unfortunately, it has not revealed the arrangement for this project, nor the propulsion package. However, the builder does show clients a layout for 10 in the owner’s party as a standard starting point.
In addition, note that only part of the megayacht’s hull is on the truck. The bow and stern portions, built separately, will be transferred this week.
Delivery of the completed Maxima 47 is set for summertime next year.
