Her delivery is still several months away. But, the first Matica model from Moonen Shipyards is looking more and more like the megayacht she’ll be once she’s out on the water.
The images here show the recent progress that the Dutch builder has made on this 98-foot (30-meter) megayacht. You may remember that the Matica model belongs to a new semi-custom series, the Caribbean series, that Moonen initiated about two years ago. The Matica features a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, as do the rest of the models in the series. (Those models include a Martinique, which is also in build. That 121-footer, or 37-meter, is available for sale, too.) In the image above, craftspeople are applying fairing compound to the superstructure. This material is put on bare hulls and superstructures before primer and then paint are finally applied. Moonen says that all fairing and primer for the hull have already been complete.
Elsewhere aboard the Matica, electricians are installing wiring and cables. Moonen says that 95 percent of it—“kilometers,” not mere feet—has been finished. The last steps of this process are taking place in the wheelhouse. Furthermore, overhead panels are going in the main-deck VIP stateroom. Fabric wall panels and window treatments are pending in all below-decks areas. This is due to all joinery here having been completed. Joinery installation throughout the main deck of the Matica is coming soon.
Surely the owners, who Moonen says have visited frequently, are looking forward to these processes being complete. Surely they’re also looking forward to cruising aboard and enjoying her alfresco areas. These include the beach club, which you can see taking shape above. It’s a first for a Moonen, but gets created much the same way the area does aboard other megayachts. The Matica’s transom folds down to yield access inside. The lowered transom itself forms an extra-large swim/toy-boarding platform, too. The transom isn’t visible in the photo because Moonen is painting it off the yacht.
Launch of this first Matica should take place this summer.
