Christened in honor of the famed poem by the same name, the 216’5” (66-meter) Invictus was handed over to her owners this month by Delta Marine. Invictus was known as Project Invader while under construction.
If her LOA sounds impressive, then the fact that Invictus has an internal volume of more than 1,900 gross tons ITC will really catch your attention. (ITC Stands for International Tonnage Convention, a worldwide standard for converting a vessel’s internal volume into tons from cubic meters.) It’s thanks to the engineering work of the Delta Design Group, the shipyard’s in-house team, which further graced the megayacht with a 43-foot (13.1-meter) beam. The overall roomy feel is accentuated by high overheads and nearly floor-to-ceiling windows on three decks, features that the owners stressed in signing the contract with Delta Marine. Delta was able to execute the requirements by using a composite superstructure mated to a steel hull (the latter additionally ice-strengthened), though aluminum is also employed in some areas.
Decor-wise, Invictus combines luxury touches like Lalique crystal, stainless steel sconces, Italian marble, and multiple woods, the latter including ebony mixed with stainless steel for a custom table. As much as the dining area for 20, on an upper deck, is made to feel welcoming, as is the saloon, which has a grand piano, it’s easy to imagine the owners and guests lingering in the skylounge. That’s because the room embodies a fun Rat Pack theme. (Frank Sinatra, eat your heart out.) The owners tapped Diane Johnson for the overall design; Johnson was the principal of Diane Johnson Design, which became Johnson, Wen, Mulder & Associates.
Other highlights of Invictus: a beach club, a theater, a sundeck with a hot tub and bar, and of course a healthy range, reportedly 6,000 nautical miles at 12 knots, under Caterpillar power.
While Invictus is currently being enjoyed by her owners on a maiden cruise—she was spotted in Victoria, Canada last week—the megayacht will also charter on occasion, via the central agency of Burgess.
