Yacht Spirit Launches at Tankoa Yachts With Wellbeing Focus

Receiving a blessing by a priest before her godmother christened her, the yacht Spirit launched at Tankoa Yachts on July 11. These traditions, upheld by many Italian yacht builders, coincided with further traditions, including the owners being present alongside the yard’s craftspeople. The launch means the owners are even closer to their goal of enjoying days and weeks of wellbeing while cruising, simultaneously leaving a smaller environmental footprint.

The fully custom megayacht, code-named yacht Project Secret during construction, started with a deeply thought-out design by Vitruvius Yachts Design. Headed by Philippe Briand and Veerle Battiau, the studio devises yachts with reduced fuel consumption and more efficient operations. The design team worked for more than a year, in fact, to ensure the yacht Spirit has an efficient, slender hull and is as lightweight as possible. When the owners chose Tankoa Yachts to build her, the shipyard conducted an optimization study, starting with engineering and continuing through construction, for the hull, weight distribution, and more. Additionally reducing fuel consumption, Tankoa Yachts developed a hybrid propulsion system, which incorporates electric motors and batteries, with E-motion. Just as important to the owners, sound and vibration attenuation need to adhere to particular decibel levels. Tankoa Yachts enlisted Van Cappellen Consultancy, a specialist with deep experience, to meet the requirements.

For their own and their guests’ wellbeing, the owners of the yacht Spirit leaned in to several lifestyle enhancements. An abundance of natural light spills into each room through full-height windows, for example. The windows further eliminate interruptions in seeing stretches of blue seas. The same is true of the glass-fronted and glass-flanked transom door, beyond which is the beach club.

With FM Architettura, the owners turned the beach area into a haven of mental and physical wellness. The transom door opens—in two sections—to create an indoor-outdoor space. Workouts are quite important to the owners, so a gym is an important part of the beach club, as is a spa. Both are usable while the yacht Spirit is underway, too. Recovery from strength training takes place in the plunge pool just beyond the glass doors, meanwhile. Vigorous swims in the ocean are easier thanks to swim steps that deploy off the transom when it’s lowered. Each of the side platforms lower as well to broaden usable relaxation space.

Although images aren’t yet available, the interior décor revolves around natural materials, subdued details, and soft surfaces. These all also play into the notion of calmness and wellbeing throughout the yacht.

Sea trials in the coming weeks should confirm a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 17 knots. The yacht Spirit carries a crew of nine and a total of 12 passengers.
