Delta Marine has long had its own naval-architecture division, further responsible for the styling of its superyachts. Increasingly, the Seattle-based builder is collaborating with outside designers who lend new aesthetics for a new generation of clients. To that end, Delta Marine has partnered with Bannenberg & Rowell for a range of hybrid-powered yachts. Starting with the Delta 50BR yacht, they call to mind Delta’s history while still stepping into bolder design territory.
“The collaboration forms part of Delta Marine’s broader vision for the future,” explains Michelle Jones, vice president of the family-run shipyard. Not simply seeking international partners, she says, Delta is responding to “evolving owner expectations.” More clients want modern profiles, for instance, with more linear elements and more open, multi-function spaces. As Simon Rowell of the design studio puts it, “Our goal was to create a yacht that feels unmistakably Delta while introducing a fresh sense of dynamism and physicality.”

The so-named Delta + B&R range, as shown by the Delta 50BR yacht illustrated, certainly has a more chiseled, dynamic hull and superstructure. Angles characterize the aft overhangs, for example, while reverse-angle windows also sit aft. The builder and studio particularly call attention to the juncture of creases along the hull. Notably, yet subtly, they create a triangle motif, a.k.a. a delta.
With volume beneath the 500-gross-ton threshold, this first megayacht prioritizes alfresco living. In fact, both visible and hidden features support it. Firstly, the large, open aft deck is for easy water and watertoy access, all-day lounging, nighttime parties, and more. Tucked beneath the stairs leading to the outdoor dining area and bar, meanwhile, are full-height garages for surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, and similar gear. On the owners’ deck—the uppermost level—a winter garden makes for an enviable area to enjoy warm and cold climes alike. Adventure-seeking couples who still work while they cruise the world will be pleased to see Bannenberg & Rowell have his and her offices available on the owners’ deck, too.

Yet another way the Delta + B&R range caters to today’s cruisers: The Delta 50BR yacht can have two guest staterooms on the main deck. Furthermore, a full-beam VIP can accompany two additional guest staterooms below decks.
Naturally, the build and design teams will tailor the general arrangements and exterior color scheme. As for the hybrid power, the system unites electric propulsion with diesel gensets, similar to many setups.

While the Delta B&R50 yacht is the first from the Delta + B&R collaboration, more designs are coming, including a 213-footer (65-meter). The top end of the range will be 246 feet (75 meters). Just as with the 164-footer, healthy alfresco spaces will flow into interiors, and vice versa, as extensions of each other. Furthermore, the lines will convey a sense of movement and strong character.
