By 2025, Mulder Shipyard plans to have refits represent a bigger portion of its overall projects. So says Nick Mulder, co-sales manager with his father, Dirk Robert Mulder, of the family business. That’s not to say it’s abandoning new-builds. In fact, those new-builds will include megayachts to 147 feet (45 meters). It’s gradually on its way to its goal. Case in point, the soon-to-be-largest Mulder, the 118-foot (36-meter) Delta One, sees hand over in July.
Delta One is hull number one of the Mulder ThirtySix series. While the owner is a first-time yard client, he’s friends with an existing customer. As often is the case with megayachts, that relationship convinced him to consider the shipyard. The icing on the cake was a visit to see Solis at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2015. Within two months, he’d signed a contract for the Mulder ThirtySix. (On a related note, Solis happens to be the largest Mulder already delivered. LOA: 112 feet, or 34 meters.)
With a beam of 26 feet (8 meters) and draft of 6’7” (2.05 meters), Delta One has the same design team as Solis. Van Oossanen Naval Architects specified a fast-displacement hull form. Powered by 1,150-hp Caterpillars, she should see a top speed around 17 knots. Better yet, she should see a 3,400-nautical-mile range at 10 knots. Claydon Reeves, meanwhile, is handling interior configuration and design.
While no information is available yet on the décor, there’s surprising news on the arrangement. Delta One has six staterooms, a lot for her size. However, considering the owner has four children, the space allotment was necessary. Mulder Shipyard tailors interiors with owners and their design teams for each of its yachts regardless. Future Mulder ThirtySix owners can, for example, request four staterooms. (They can do so starting with hull number two, in fact. She recently began construction on spec.) Further surprising, Delta One will see her owner take the wheel most of the time.
Following delivery, Delta One will spend the rest of the summer in the Med. She’ll then make her formal boat-show debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
