A “small” megayacht doesn’t have to compromise on usable space. As proof, Kingship is collaborating with Horacio Bozzo Design and Axis Group Yacht Design on the Discovery 88, an 88-footer (26.7-meter).
The Discovery 88 is the latest megayacht that the designers and builder have teamed up for, with the previous one being Green Voyager. Along those same lines, the Discovery 88 is intended for far-flung exploration, but this time in a far more spacious than normal atmosphere. She boasts an incredibly healthy beam of 26’3” (8 meters), which is akin to the elbowroom found aboard megayachts in the 100-foot range. It’s put to good use above and below decks. In fact, you could host quite a nice cocktail party on the 538-square-foot (50-square-meter) flying bridge, which has a bar, dining area, and lounging space.
In terms of below decks, the best space is reserved for you: a full-beam, 258-square-foot (24-square-meter) master stateroom. I’s accompanied by an equally impressive, full-beam VIP, measuring nearly 194 square feet (18 square meters). Two double staterooms each have a Pullman, in case more family and friends plan to be stowaways as you travel the world. As you’d expect, the crew are housed fully forward, and they have their own stairway directly to the pilothouse.
Speaking of travel, the steel-hulled Discovery 88 should also see a range of 3,500 nautical miles at slightly less than her anticipated top speed of 11½ knots, under Caterpillar power. That, in combination with a seven-foot (2.15-meter) draft, should permit her to access a variety of shallow and deep anchorages alike.
Kingship will have a scale model and additional details for the Discovery 88, to be classed to RINA standards, at the Monaco Yacht Show.
