If the Pacific and/or Indian Oceans are on your 2014 cruising itinerary, the “Superyacht Explorer” e-book was created for you—and it’s free.
“Superyacht Explorer” is a 58-page guide by Jeanette Tobin of Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand and Christelle Holler of Tahiti Private Expeditions. Tobin and Holler have extensive experience in their respective regions. They, and fellow yacht agents, wanted to share their knowledge directly with more megayacht owners, captains, and crew, given the increasing number of megayachts making their way to the thousands of islands dotting the two oceans.
The Pacific and Indian Oceans are unlike the more familiar Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. You won’t find dozens of marinas, bustling towns, and busy nightlife. “Superyacht Explorer” is therefore for those of you seeking uninhabited stretches of beach, once-in-a-lifetime cultural experiences, and encounters with more whales than people. In many areas, there are no marinas for megayachts, making the pleasures and privacy of anchoring out all the better.
“Superyacht Explorer” is organized according to both region and country. The South Pacific chapters cover Tahiti, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia, and the Solomon Islands (above). From descriptions of the unspoiled atolls and waters of French Polynesia to the abundant reefs of the Solomon Islands, “Superyacht Explorer” entices you to pack your bags now.
Next up in “Superyacht Explorer” is Asia, which the authors say offers the most varied cruising experiences, and the Indian Ocean. Chapters cover Indonesia, Borneo, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, the Andaman Islands, and the Maldives. There’s additionally information on Sri Lanka, which has growing luxury-cruising appeal. It’s also a stop-over for yachts and megayachts heading to the Red Sea or wishing to venture to the Seychelles, among other islands.
