UPDATE, MARCH 10, 2014: AB Inflatables USA says that the auction was a success. It sent a check to the American Cancer Society for $20,000 last week.
UPDATE, FEBRUARY 24, 2014: The AB Inflatable Nautilus 12 DLX auction has been re-listed. It is currently on eBay Motors, through March 1. The item number is 131124454558. Read on for the original story.
Want a new tender, and to help a worthy cause? Place a bid for this RIB, dubbed Project Pink. Project Pink, a Nautilus 12 DLX RIB from AB Inflatables, is being auctioned to raise awareness about breast cancer. Funds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
Project Pink resulted from AB Inflatables USA, the North American distributor for AB Inflatables, partnering with several marine-industry companies. They include the National Marine Manufacturers Association, Gator Upholstery (for the pink trim), Pacer Group (for wiring and electrical), and Powerboat Services (for the pink 40-hp outboard). The American Cancer Society also gave its support.
AB Inflatables USA chose the Nautilus 12 DLX for Project Pink for a few reasons. First, the Nautilus 12 DLX is part of the Leisure Series, its premiere line of big-yacht tenders. The 12’3” (3.67-meter) RIB can seat five to six people. It comes with the features you’d expect of a durable RIB. These include Hypalon synthetic rubber grab handles, stainless steel tow rings, and a non-skid deck. A bow step, a built-in icebox, and navigation lights are further standard. The tube diameter is 18 inches (0.46 meter), and internal space is 26.1 square feet (2.4 square meters). In addition, you’ll find a fiberglass console and stern seat, each molded into the fiberglass hull.
Speaking of the console and seat, note that they’re trimmed in pink just like the tube is. Even the AB Inflatables logo is pink for Project Pink, accompanied by the famed cancer-awareness ribbon. The suggested retail price for Project Pink is $24,107.
Bidding opens on eBay this Wednesday, February 12. It ends on February 22. Want to see Project Pink in person? You can do just that at the Miami International Boat Show this week. Project Pink will be part of the AB Inflatables display at the convention center, stand G-79.
