Cyclos III, a one-owner sailing superyacht delivered in 1990 by Royal Huisman, is being auctioned on May 8. It’s a blind-bid auction organized by Yachting Partners International.
The 139-foot (42.36-meter) Cyclos III has been listed for sale previously, through traditional brokerage channels. Her owner is reportedly retiring from yachting. If you know the “Cyclos” name, you may recall that two same-named sailing yachts preceded her.
When Cyclos III was delivered, she was quite high-tech for her time. The aluminum-hulled ketch was commissioned to have her hotel load run without gensets. Instead, a battery bank can keep the systems running reportedly for 18 hours. Even in today’s emission-focused world, battery-only operations are rare.
Other things make Cyclos III noteworthy. Royal Huisman says she saw 16 knots to windward on her sea trial. The ketch is equipped with manual sail-handling systems, capable of a 10-knot cruise. The fixed bulb keel means Cyclos III draws 16 feet (4.88 meters). Naval architecture is from Ron Holland Design.
The owner tapped Andrew Winch Designs for a thoroughly modern interior. Up to 10 guests have enjoyed a mostly white decor, with black and other colors in fabrics and art. The touches are everywhere from the aft owner’s stateroom, equipped with a private cockpit, to the airy dining area (pictured above). A central cockpit invites Cyclos III guests to enjoy the views while sailing. A crew of six are additionally housed aboard the 29-foot-beam (8.85-meter-beam) boat.
The owner of Cyclos III had her refitted in 2010 and has reportedly kept her in quite good condition. We’re awaiting details from Yachting Partners International on when the yacht was last surveyed. We’ve also enquired whether bidders can have their own surveyor inspect Cyclos III prior to the auction. We’ll post updates when the information is received. Furthermore, we’ll update this story as to whether a registration fee is required to bid, and what the buyer’s premium is for the winning bid.
For now, we can tell you that the auction guide price, a.k.a. a suggested price that is higher than the reserve, is €2.75 million (about $3.8 million at press time). Interested bidders may visit Cyclos III at Royal Huisman’s shipyard by appointment. Dates are restricted to April 28 to May 2. Arrangements must be made with William Bishop, the listing broker. He can additionally be reached via phone at (011) 377 99 99 97 97 or (011) 33 627 326 542. On a related note, Bishop is a former captain of Cyclos III.
