The first Mondo Marine M60 is officially under construction. The megayacht is expected to be christened Sarastar shortly before delivery in 2015.
The Mondo Marine M60 is, as we’ve explained previously, one of a series of projects the shipyard has in the works with Luca Dini Design. The 197-footer (60-meter) is being built entirely of aluminum. Part of the focus is good performance. Mondo Marine’s in-house engineering department anticipates an 18-knot cruising speed and 21-knot-plus top end. Propulsion comes from twin 3,860-hp MTUs. At a more leisurely 12 knots, the Mondo Marine M60 megayacht should see a 4,100-nautical-mile range.
The sporty performance complements sporty lines and guest spaces arranged for indulging in relaxation. The owner is working with Luca Dini Design on the general arrangement and interior design as well. Ten guests will be accommodated in five below-decks staterooms. They’ll enjoy a beach club fitted with a bar and lined in teak. The Mondo Marine M60 will also treat them to a full-beam (34’4”, or 10.5-meter) skylounge. Swimming or soaking—or both—can take place on the sundeck. It’s thanks to a lap pool and a hot tub. No doubt movie nights onboard will also be in the cards. Why? The owner has requested that OLED-capable TVs be installed throughout the megayacht. OLED is technology that allows brighter, deeper-colored, and crisper images. Equally noteworthy, it permits thinner, lighter-weight, and more flexible display screens. And, OLED consumes less power than LEDs.
The keel-laying of the Mondo Marine M60 is the latest of a few important developments at the Italian shipyard. Late last year, it signed a dealership agreement with China-based Sease Yachting. The partnership made Sease Yachting the representative for fiberglass Mondo Marine yachts in the Chinese market. In March, Mondo Marine officially became a shareholder of Sease Yachting. This allows Mondo Marine yachts for the market to be built within China itself. Sease Yachting owns a shipyard there. It will focus on fiberglass Mondo Marine projects to 88 feet (26.8 meters), overseen by Mondo Marine’s engineering department. The first yacht should be ready early next year.
