UPDATE, JULY 4, 2014: Lürssen has released a brief statement about the refit of Global:
“The hull has been given a new lease of life with a stunning light-grey color and tremendous shine that Tim Morley describes as ‘a great credit to Lürssen’s refit team and the contractors who undertook the work.’ Further, her helicopter deck has been enhanced and is now significantly larger and safer for regular helicopter operations thanks to the consultancy services of Nigel Watson. The larger helipad was built at Lürssen and incorporates lighting and hinged railings.”

Lürssen usually gets attention for its new builds, understandably so. It’s worth a reminder, though, that the yard also performs refits. One such project became visible a few days ago. She’s Global, formerly Kismet.
Kismet, you may recall, was built in 2007. The 223-foot (68-meter) megayacht changed hands late last year. Renamed Global, the yacht was set to undergo some changes to better suit the new owner’s wishes.
Global was taken to Lürssen’s facility in Rendsburg, Germany for the work. The most obvious change is the new hull color. The megayacht was launched with a rich grey tone, whereas now the shade is more subtle, almost silver. The upper deck, reinforced for a helicopter, was further altered. It’s a bit longer aboard Global than it was when she was first launched. Espen Øino, who gave the yacht her original lines, has been involved in the refit to preserve the original appeal.
We reached out to Tim Morley of Morley Yachts, the owner’s representative, for an update on what else has been done. As of press time, we did not receive a response. Among the things that made her stand out when first delivered were a glass-bottom hot tub, indoor and outdoor bars, a spa area with a sauna and massage room, and large outdoor seating areas fully forward and high up top to enjoy the views.
This isn’t the first time that the yacht has returned to her builder. When Global was still known as Kismet, Lürssen performed some technical work, too.
Global is planned solely for private use.
