With Marina Port Vell’s transformation nearly complete, the Barcelona-based destination is offering discounts to transient megayachts through the summer and for the winter.
Marina Port Vell’s renovation began in late 2011. It was an existing marina from 1992, acquired to become a home base for megayachts in the Mediterranean. Of course, seasonal slips were also in the plans from day one. The same was true for slips for small boats. Marina Port Vell was expanded to accommodate megayachts from 164 to 394 feet (40 to 120 meters). In total, there are 150 berths for all pleasurecraft.
With the marina expansion wrapping up in July, Marina Port Vell reports “brisk” long-term berth sales. The last remaining work is the completion of the restaurant and reception building. That should be done in October. To entice more transients, and simultaneously promote the Catalan region, the management team has a “pre-opening” discount for megayachts staying two weeks or longer. It’s for the rest of the summer, a 50-percent rate reduction. Marina Port Vell is offering the same discount for long-term berthing over the winter months into 2015.
“With both Marina Port Vell and Barcelona receiving exceptional coverage in major yacht and lifestyle media, we are sensitive to having enough space available to meet the needs of the sojourning yacht,” says Anella Alcott, commercial director for Marina Port Vell. “By discounting berths which moor transient owners, we are encouraging them to book early to ensure available space at the marina. I’m sure the first stay will lead to many others in years to come and perhaps to considering Marina Port Vell as a home port.”
Recall, too, that Marina Port Vell promotes itself as being part of a “nautical cluster” in Barcelona. Repair yard MB’92 is adjacent to the marina. The yacht-paint specialist Pinmar has a base at MB’92 as well. The three companies collaborate to service each other’s clients whenever possible.
