Two months’ work at Icon Yachts has prepared Sherakhan for the upcoming charter season and her ambitous global itinerary.
The 228’5” (69.65-meter) Sherakhan arrived at the Dutch yard for a repaint and some systems’ overhaul. Part of the latter included installing new, lower-emissions gensets. The yacht has been well maintained since her original conversion for yacht service from 2005 to 2006. Sherakhan started life in 1965 as a commercial ship and was an abandoned vessel when Jan Verkerk, an experienced yachtsman and still her owner, found her nearly a decade ago. Verkerk’s own team oversaw her conversion. She’s been an intrepid traveler and lauded on the charter circuit ever since.
The new gensets and overhauled systems should make Sherakhan more of a mindful visitor for many of the pristine environments she’ll visit through the coming year. Sherakhan will start the winter charter season cruising the Caribbean, then depart for places like Panama, Antarctica, South Africa, the Seychelles, Thailand, Bali, Fiji, and Costa Rica. It’s an itinerary that Verkerk can’t wait to see start. Here’s his explanation:
So why take Sherakhan the world over? Well, we have already done something out of the ordinary and ventured down to Patagonia and Antarctica. There we got the chance to test Sherakhan’s ultimate sea worthiness and expose ourselves to a world unknown. These expeditions were a great success proven by our ecstatic guests who were blown away by the whole experience and left with memories for a lifetime.
This got us thinking: What about all the other awe-inspiring destinations of this planet? Places best seen by sea, only means of getting there by boat. The perfect opportunity to see the most out of everything this world has to offer.
Verkerk had extra reason to be happy during the re-launch party at Icon Yachts for Sherakhan. His birthday had just occurred, so the party became a dual celebration (above).
