South Africa-based Southern Wind Shipyard is keen to begin construction on the SW 115 RS. When launched, she’ll become its new flagship.
The SW 115 RS, initially promoted to clients in 2012, bears input from two previous collaborators: Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yacht Design. Given the trio’s experience with competitive cruiser-racers, it should come as no surprise that the SW 115 RS is intended to be a nimble performer. Previous Southern Wind Shipyard deliveries have vied for top honors in races like the RORC, Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, and more. Farr Yacht Design has graced this project with a low bow knuckle and essentially vertical stem, which it says let the full forward hull length aid in generating speed. Composite construction, employing carbon fiber and Kevlar, will keep the SW 115 RS strong and lightweight. Furthermore, Southern Wind Shipyard anticipates an 89-ton light displacement, 15-foot (4.6-meter) draft, and 7,050-square-foot (655-square-meter) sailplan.
The SW 115 RS will also be a voluminous yacht for families and friends to enjoy travels together. To this end, Farr Yacht Design gave her width aft for benefits both on deck and below. A party of eight can be accommodated, along with a crew of five. As is customary, the SW 115 RS provides guests and crew with their own entryways. Should a buyer wish to invite along more people, one of the three crew cabins could accommodate them. Either way, there’s a full-beam (23’10”, or 7.3-meter) saloon and of course a guest cockpit for sunning, dining, and general relaxing.
Southern Wind Shipyards also expects the buyer of the SW 115 RS to take along a tender, which can stow in a garage.
