Known only as Hull 1015 for now, this lean, mean, fishing machine is being built by Yachting Developments for a customer who clearly loves sportfishing as much as creature comforts. Measuring 126’10”, Hull 1015 is significant for more than just her LOA: She’s being constructed entirely of carbon fiber composite. As such, she’ll be the world’s largest sportfisherman to feature this build method.
Carbon fiber construction is increasingly being used for sailing superyacht hulls and decks. While some mega-motoryachts have featured carbon fiber, most employ it for a handful of components or parts of the superstructure, not the entire body of the yacht.
Yachting Developments says that the owner of Hull 1015 chose its team due to its experience with the material. The New Zealand shipyard also says the owner was familiar with Satu, a 90-foot sportfisherman it completed and delivered in 2012. (Satu began construction elsewhere. Her hull was moved to Yachting Developments for engine and systems installations, plus a variety of other internal and external completions.)
Sportfishermen must be fast and nimble, whether heading out to the fishing grounds or backing down when a fish is on the line. Yachting Developments cannot yet reveal the expected performance figures for Hull 1015. However, she’ll pack some serious power below decks: a pair of 3,140-hp MTUs. She’ll also pack serious engineering from a studio with a strong reputation for good performers: Michael Peters Yacht Design.
The majority of other details regarding Hull 1015 are being kept confidential for now. This includes the general arrangement. We do know that Below Decks Marine Interiors is collaborating with the owner on the layout and decor. It, too, has previous experience with sportfishermen, namely Satu.
Delivery for Hull 1015 is set for 2017.
