The growing interest in chartering in Australia and other South Pacific destinations convinced one megayacht owner to do something he’d never done: offer his boat for charter there. Thus, following a thorough interior refit that has maximized usable space and lent city-chic flair, Sahana is introducing cruisers to his home country.
The 119’8” (36.5-meter) Sahana was built in 2008 (in Australia, too, by Oceanfast) and acquired by her current owner within the past year. Among the things that attracted him were her size and space utilization. “I wanted 120 feet or just under—which is a great size for berthing and getting into marine parks in North Queensland,” he explains. As for space, “I also favor full-beam saloons; this provides you with the volume of a much bigger yacht, incorporating a huge lounge, dining, and bar with four usable areas within the saloon,” he says.
Outlining the details of the refit himself, the owner had Sahana gain floorspace that was previously walled up or otherwise not employed for relaxation. “The size and number of new areas has made the boat extra-usable, with a warm feel to it,” he says. The thoroughly contemporary, minimalist-like atmosphere (below) is likened to that of a New York City penthouse. Sahana also gained a wine cellar and more watertoys in her garage.
Run by a six-person crew experienced in charter, Sahana accommodates eight guests. is among the few charter megayachts that can access the most famous marine parks in Australia, including the Great Barrier Reef.
The yacht is currently available in the Whitsunday Islands via her central agent, Bray Management. Come summertime Down Under (winter in the Northern Hemisphere), Sahana is being based in Sydney, as a jumping-off point for other regions. Her rate is $120,000 per week, switching to $125,000 for Christmas through New Year’s.
