In June 2017, in time to compete against other Wally Class yachts, an avid racer will take delivery of his wallycento. She’s the fourth box-rule sailing superyacht built by Wally thus far.
The owner of this fourth wallycento, the name of which has not been revealed yet, was inspired by the previous three deliveries. But, the 100-foot (30.48-meter) yacht will stand apart by having a different naval architect: Mills Design. Luca Bassani, head of Wally, made the recommendation. He did so due to being impressed by a maxi Mills Design had penned. She’s Alegre, part of the IMA Mini-Maxi fleet.
Mark Mills, head of Mills Design, says that the client requested an even higher performance wallycento than her predecessors. Structural weight has been reduced, while hull stiffness has increased. Furthermore, he adds, this fourth wallycento has a centralized machinery space to combat pitching motions. “The hull shape exhibits a combination of lower drag in lighter conditions and increased stability in more wind that makes her more versatile than previous generations,” Mills also says.
Yet another improvement: a layout suitable for swift conversion to racing. Mills added a “ramp deck,” a feature from Alegre. It fits over the interior accommodations, “mandated by the wallycento rule in the most efficient way possible, while providing an easier deck on which to operate.”
This fourth wallycento, whose interior designer has yet to be selected, is being built at Italy-based Persico Marine, to Germanisch Lloyd classification. She will, however, have accommodations for six guests and two to four crew when not racing.
