Alfresco living is what the yachting lifestyle is primarily about. More to the point, it’s upper-deck alfresco living. Megayacht owners and guests can indulge in it in an unusual way aboard the Top Deck 40M.
The Top Deck 40M is a 131-foot evolution of a concept created by Luiz de Basto Designs a few years ago. Luiz de Basto, principal of the studio, imagined a youthful, active family who prioritized togetherness on the water. He called his concept the Top Deck 63, a 63-footer whose upper-deck bulwarks folded down. This, plus a capacious garage, made for a stronger sensation of on-sea living. It also created usable space rivaling that of a megayacht 40 feet longer. The Top Deck concept became a reality thanks to Astondoa, which started construction on spec. A buyer soon came along, and the Top Deck 63 premiered in Cannes in 2013, as seen in this video.
The Top Deck 40M, which Astondoa and de Basto are actively promoting, embraces the same fold-down bulwarks. This time, they’re on the main deck (below), combined with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors. You effectively feel more connected to your surroundings. The lowering bulwarks add 286 square feet (26.6 square meters) of usable space, de Basto says.
The spacious sensation doesn’t end there. The bridge-deck master suite aboard the Top Deck 40M has three sides of glass. All of the glass slides or folds open, too. Since the stateroom is situated aft, it becomes a virtual veranda. Your 10 guests don’t get left out of enjoying better views, of course. An observation area tucked into the bow has wrap-around ports. The room can also serve as a breakfast area, TV room, or even a lounge, with a bar conveniently to port. Even your captain can enjoy tasks more, since the wheelhouse windshield splits open vertically.
Of course, the “Top Deck” part of “Top Deck 40M” hasn’t been forgotten. Astondoa and de Basto envision cooking and dining taking place forward on the flying bridge. You and your guests can additionally lounge and soak up the sun (or soak in the hot tub) to your heart’s content.
The main-deck VIP, four below-deck guest staterooms, accommodations for eight crew, and more are all open to your decor input.
