The first-ever steel-hulled Mangusta is a few short weeks from delivery. The Mangusta Oceano 42 launched last weekend, with the owners and local dignitaries joining the Overmarine Group management and craftspeople.
The steel hull is a reflection of the Overmarine Group’s desire to add full-displacement, long-range megayachts to its offerings. A bulbous bow is intended to aid in fuel efficiency. With twin 12V MTU 2000 diesels, she should cruise at 11 knots and see a 4,000-mile range.
The Mangusta Oceano 42 marks two other firsts. She’s the first trideck for the brand. And, she’s the first to emerge from the purpose-built Overmarine shipyard in Pisa, Italy. (Its longtime base, where its maxi opens are made, is in Viareggio.) The Pisa facility, by the way, encompasses 2.368 million square feet (22,000 square meters), of which 96,875 square feet (9,000 square meters) are under cover.
This Mangusta Oceano 42 shows off accommodations for 12 in the owners’ party and seven crewmembers. Alberto Mancini, who regularly collaborates with the brand, is responsible for styling and interior design. Highlights include an infinity pool with a waterfall on the foredeck. It’s joined by two sunning areas. The Mangusta Oceano 42 further turns the pool bottom into a skylight for the master head. The ever-popular beach club is included aft. In a nice twist, the transom, when opened out over the water, serves as an underwater viewing platform. Ports contained within it give a clear view of fish swimming through the light streaming from the underwater lights.
No details on the decor of this first Mangusta Oceano 42 have been released thus far. However, you’ll get a chance to see the megayacht at some of the upcoming boat shows.
