The largest-ever Amels is in the water. The Dutch builder launched Here Comes the Sun this week. Aptly named, she’s big enough to virtually tow the sun behind her wherever she goes. Her volume is equally impressive, at 2,827 tons.
Here Comes the Sun is the first Amels Limited Editions 272, making her its biggest semi-custom model. She’s also bigger than any of its fully custom yachts (so far). The Amels that previously held the record: Montkaj, at 256 feet (78 meters), delivered in 1995.
Offering a Limited Editions model in a size that most other builders still reserve for full customization may seem unusual. But, Amels has delivered 30 Limited Editions megayachts over the past decade. The concept clearly appeals to buyers who prefer a set engineering platform, versus selecting all components and performance parameters themselves. As for performance, Amels pledges a 17-knot top end and 5,500-nautical-mile range.
If you are familiar with the Limited Editions series, you will recognize the styling work of Tim Heywood. Inside her five decks, Andrew Winch Designs is creating a highly detailed decor. Leather and oak paneling throughout, along with headroom exceeding 7’6” (2.3 meters), make for a welcoming atmosphere. Since Here Comes the Sun accommodates 16 guests, they have a variety of relaxation spaces at their disposal. These include a cinema, six staterooms on the main deck, and a full deck devoted to the owners. The owners have their own saloon accompanying their sleeping area, with an overall 3,229 square feet (300 square meters) of private space.
A total of nearly 9,700 square feet (about 900 square meters) of usable space lays outside aboard Here Comes the Sun, too. Customary seating, sunning, and dining areas await, as do two pools. Further aboard is a beach club outfitted with fold-down platforms to each side. Tucked just inside the beach club are a bar, a sauna, and a steam room.
The owners of Here Comes the Sun take delivery later this year.
