Why settle for a handrail that’s simple, if your yacht isn’t? One specialty manufacturer thinks you deserve something special. It has a metal-shaping machine that bends handrails into cool shapes. It even has a cool name, the Hydra-Ovaliser.
The company, CJR Fabrication, is a subcontractor for a number of yacht builders, plus architecture studios. If you’ve visited the Millennium Wheel in London, for example, you’ve touched its oval handrails. Furthermore, it says, last year alone, it produced about 2.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) of oval handrails. Some of them are part of the custom motorcycle “showroom” aboard the Princess 30M. CRJ Fabrication created the Hydra-Ovaliser in house. While it can form its namesake shapes, it can form round ones and twisting ones, too, as the picture shows. The company says the end products are more precise than the ones from traditional bending and shaping machinery. The Hydra-Ovaliser can manipulate both stainless steel and aluminum. Each handrail has a mirror finish as well, which megayacht clients particularly expect.
“We are lucky enough to work with some of the world’s most prestigious yacht brands, as well as several leading architects and luxury building groups,” says Michelle Davies, CJR Fabrication’s general manager. “All rightly expect the very highest levels of quality but still demand a competitive price and rapid turnaround.” The Hydra-Ovaliser is rapid all right. The company says it can produce rails up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) in a single length every minute. The company also says they don’t suffer from ripples or other imperfections, either, due to how the fabrication machine is made.
Long runs of handrails with these unusual shapes don’t pose an issue, CJR Fabrication claims. It connects multiple sections in house on behalf of yacht builders and other clients.
