Feadship launched her as the anonymous Project 697 nearly a month ago. The 154-footer (47-meter), bearing the name Femke, cast off her lines from the shipyard yesterday.
Femke, constructed at Feadship’s Aalsmeer site, features styling resonant of yachts from two decades ago, and even earlier than that. In fact, Feadship likens her to its 1992 delivery Aurora B. Back then, teak caprails caught the eye of any onlooker, no matter what the yacht. Speaking of teak, wood planks long flowed along cambered decks, with that arch noticeable underfoot as you walked forward. In addition, flared bows and forward-raked pilothouse ports characterized profiles, as did, on occasion, rich-blue hulls paired with white topsides. Femke follows suit on all of these. (If you’re a classicist at heart and want a similar look, the paints adorning her are Midnight Blue and Matterhorn White.)
Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects has a long history of designing megayachts, so Femke may have felt much like returning to its roots. Even with the traditional design elements, though, the studio gave the owner a few contemporary touches, at his request. Note, for example, the horizontal grills running along the sides of the superstructure. They’re particularly prominent forward on the main deck—where some yachts might instead feature a large window. The grills continue up on the mast as well. As we mentioned when Feadship christened the then-named Project 697, these grills are each part of the aluminum superstructure, not separately mounted plates. Feadship says it was quite the challenge.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have details on the interior decor for Femke. However, in keeping with her classic style, she does have teak furnishings throughout her alfresco areas. Teak even outlines the sliding doors leading from aft decks to interior areas. And, befitting a modern classic, the exterior stairways between decks have teak treads, mounted on stainless steel bases.
