If ever a name summed up the sensation of being on the water, Satisfaction is it. And, Satisfaction is what the owner of the first SW105 from Southern Wind Shipyard expects as he’s about to embark on his maiden cruise.
This semi-custom model’s name comes from her LOA, naturally. It’s 105’9” (32.27 meters), which excludes the bowsprit. She’s a high-performance cruiser, too, which suited the owner’s interests. In fact, he wanted the comforts of home inside combined with an occasional racer. Farr Yacht Design and Nauta Yachts, along with Southern Wind Shipyard’s team, gave Satisfaction her characteristic features. They include a sporty, single-level deck profile. They also gave her wide aft sections and an open transom. She should perform well in light air, too. Further to performance, the owner requested a telescopic keel for good upwind sailing without impinging on interior space. Draft therefore ranges from 11’10” to 19 feet (3.65 to 5.8 meters). Yet another feature positively impacting performance is the synthetic teak decking. Southern Wind Shipyard says it adds 35 percent less weight versus real teak. Of course, it’s also easier to maintain.
With a 23’10” (7.31-meter) beam, Satisfaction accommodates eight to 10 in the owner’s party and five to six crew. The above-mentioned wide aft areas boost interior volume. The sense of volume gets booster further due to the light ambiance of the saloon (top). Complementing the saloon, Satisfaction also has a TV room (below) that can convert into a cozy studio. It separates the saloon and master stateroom. Speaking of which, the SW105 series features a layout many owners prefer, that being a forward master and guest staterooms amidships, with crew and work areas aft.
The satisfaction of sailing aboard Satisfaction comes best outside. That’s why the SW105 has a guest cockpit fitted with coffee table and cleverly concealed cooler. (That cooler is in the table base.) For dining convenience, a dumbwaiter brings up dishes from the galley.
While Southern Wind Shipyard preps Satisfaction for departure, it’s working on hulls number two and three in the series, too. Hull number two of the SW105 gets handed over in June. The third should be in her owner’s hands in December.
