Seven years ago, a racing fanatic took delivery of the appropriately racy-looking Aurelia. Not only that, but he christened her in honor of a car, the Lancia Aurelia GT from the 1950s. Everything about her, as you’ll see in this video, oozes “vroom.”
Start, for instance, with performance. Heesen Yachts engineered her to hit 30 knots under MTU power. Just as you would see on a race car, the 122-footer (37-meter) has a giant numeral painted on her side. Interesting enough, it has as much to do with Heesen as it does the owner’s tastes. The “10” signifies Aurelia being the 10th hull in the Heesen 3700 series.
As if that weren’t enough, the owner’s passion extends throughout the interior. The three guest staterooms bear names in honor of some of the most famous automotive designers the world has ever seen. One is the Bertone stateroom, recalling the designer of Lamborghinis. Another is the Pininfarina cabin, honoring the designer of Ferraris. Finally, there’s the Zagato stateroom, recalling Aston Martins.
Having just three guest staterooms makes Aurelia stand out even more. Well, technically, a fourth cabin does exist—but it’s for the captain. The owner also made sure to give his crew good workspace for the laundry. (Future owners, take notes. Laundry rooms should get good elbow room as well as good floor space. Laundry is a seemingly never-ending task aboard yachts!)
