Two months from now, Tankoa Yachts’ largest launch slips into the water. She’ll do so under the name Solo.
Previously known as Tankoa S701, the 236-footer (72-meter) is her owner’s second megayacht from the shipyard. His first was actually the first yacht that Tankoa built, christened Suerte. Suerte came in at 227 feet (69.3 meters) and launched in 2015.
While the two megayachts share some similarities, such as accommodations for 12, Solo is more voluminous. Her gross tonnage is 1,600, versus approximately 1,467 for Suerte. Tankoa credits using underwater exhausts aboard Solo for some of the additional volume. Other changes include a larger aft deck with a pool (see below), and a full-width upper deck to benefit the upper-deck lounge. Given a beam of 38 feet (11.6 meters), Solo should feel plenty comfortable there.
Since the owner commissioned Solo for charter, he wanted crew to do their duties unobtrusively. He also has some rooms available for flex use. For example, the hair salon/massage room, on the upper deck, can become an extra stateroom instead. It has its own en suite head. The same is true for the owner’s study/media room. The owner’s suite, by the way, occupies most of an upper deck, the same level as the helipad. When cruising with the normal 12 passengers, though, Solo will put the VIP, two doubles, and two twins all to use. They all sit on the main deck, too.
Solo puts several relaxation areas at guests’ disposal. The illustrations here give you an idea of what the onboard ambiance will be in the beach club (top) and upper-deck lounge (above). Certainly, guests will gravitate to that lounge, given a baby grand piano, bar, and 90-inch TV there. The owner collaborated with Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini to create a contemporary, sophisticated look and feel. The result is much different than that aboard Suerte.
Interestingly, the owner may not use Solo so much after delivery. He’s planning on selling her, and possibly building a bigger megayacht with Tankoa. Last year, Michel Karsenti, Tankoa’s sales director, said the owner was eyeing S801, a 262-footer (80-meter) that was still in the engineering-development stages.
Interested buyers will get a chance to inspect Solo at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. Note that she should see more than 6,000 nautical miles at 12½ knots, under Caterpillar power.
