Take a long, last look at Broadwater. Come early next year, the classically appealing megayacht will have an entirely new appearance. From a hull extension to a different hull color and copious additional changes outside and in, she is undergoing a transformation at the Royal Huisman Huisfit facility in Amsterdam.
Broadwater, acquired by an American in late 2018, originally launched in The Netherlands, too. Then known as Rasselas, she saw construction by Feadship in 1994 (also, coincidentally enough, for an American). LOA: 171 (52 meters).
The current owner has enjoyed cruising aboard a variety of motoryachts over the years, further seeking refit yards to alter areas to suit his personal use. This Broadwater (not to be confused with a same-name, slightly smaller Feadship he also owns) is his largest yacht so far. Interestingly, he took the yacht back to Feadship last month, for her Lloyd’s classification inspection. Huisfit staff assisted with that task, which is among the reasons why Huisfit landed the full refit contract.
The owner wants Huisfit to change spaces for both private enjoyment as well as charter service. In fact, Huisfit says the brief specified “a modern and livable home away from home.” One of the biggest changes involves adding 13 feet (4 meters) aft, along with restyling the transom. The look is coming from the drawing boards of Adam Voorhees, a California-based designer. Unfortunately, no specifics are available on what the additional length will accommodate, nor on the shape of the stern.
Regardless, restyling is occurring elsewhere onboard, too, especially inside. Again, specifics aren’t public, but the owner’s, guest, and crew areas all are receiving new looks. New teak decking is going outside on the main and bridge decks. Plus, the sundeck gains a new mast, able to support a sun awning. Further changes throughout allow Broadwater to gain commercial (a.k.a. charter) classification compliance.
Look for Broadwater to show off her upcoming 184-foot (56-meter) length, and a new paint scheme, next spring.
