The semi-displacement, extra-open Extra Yachts lineup is growing. Hull number one of the Extra 93 series slipped into the water this week. Made for a party of 10, she brings a stronger sense of volume to the sub-100-foot megayacht market.
Initially, Extra Yachts was a series under ISA Yachts. However, Palumbo Superyachts, the parent company, decided to spin it off as its own brand. It occurred just after the premiere of the first model, the Extra 76, a year ago.
Francesco Guida of Guida Design & Engineering applied the same principles to the Extra 93 as he did the 76. This means alfresco areas are more expansive than they are aboard comparably sized yachts. Likewise, interior areas look and feel roomier. This is due in large part to the ample beam, 25’6” (7.8 meters), broader than you typically find. But, it’s also due to features like disappearing windows on the upper deck. When they’re open, the interior lounging area becomes one with the alfresco sunning and dining areas.
The Extra 93 further encourages customers and their guests to indulge in the great outdoors, too. For instance, fully aft on the main deck, you’ll find a big C-shape settee that converts to a sunpad. More guests can stretch out on the foredeck sunpad. For the ultimate in privacy, though, everyone can head up to the sundeck. On the off chance you’ll encounter a rain shower while cruising, never fret. The Extra 93’s saloon, with full-height glass, lends the feeling of being outside, welcoming you all with a C-shape settee and armchairs.
Besides offering an ample feel, the Extra 93 prioritizes fuel consumption. Extra Yachts equips its megayachts with Volvo Penta’s IPS system, proven to burn less fuel than traditional diesels. Triple 1,000-hp Volvo Penta IPS units power the Extra 93, permitting a reported 15-knot cruise. Maximum speed should be 18½ knots.
Look for the Extra 93 to make her global boat-show debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in a few weeks.
