Due to increased interest, particularly from superyacht owners and crew, Sanctuary Cove Marina in Australia is investing in additional berths. Due for completion in May, the expansion will see 303 boats and yachts upwards of 180 feet (54.86 meters) able to dock.
“The new facility will be a ‘signature project,’” asserts Steve Sammes, the marina’s general manager. Besides raising the bar for facilities Down Under, he adds, the extra berths will boost business for the Marine Village. This area includes bars, dining options, and boutiques, along with services like banking and medical assistance. Furthermore, the Sanctuary Cove Country Club (for fitness and massage), and the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort are “all at the fingertips of our berth holders,” Sammes explains.
Mulpha, the parent company for the Sanctuary Cove Marina plus the annual Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, believes the timing is right. In particular, a multi-million-dollar injection of cash is going into the adjacent Coomera Marine Precinct’s refit facilities. In addition, the Queensland government is committed to long-term dredging of the Coomera River. Plus, Sanctuary Cove hosts not just the annual boat show, but also an annual food and wine festival. “We are confident local, interstate, and international boat owners will see the benefits of leasing a berth at Sanctuary Cove and enjoying a sojourn on the Gold Coast as part of their itinerary,” says Greg Shaw, CEO of Mulpha. Consider, too, that a bill for foreign-flagged superyachts to charter in Australia just made quick headway in the government.
Currently, Sanctuary Cove Marina can handle 237 boats. When the expansion wraps up in May, it will additionally feature covered berths among the 303 total slips. What’s more, the marina plans to offer an Admiral Club Membership. Featuring concierge services from the InterContinental Hotel, it also affords golf cart transfer from the hotel to the marina. Yachts docked in the marina can order room service, too, as well as laundry pickup and return.
“Extending the marina facilities will attract a new superyacht market to the destination,” Shaw concludes.
