The third quarter of 2020 will see the largest CL Yachts project so far make her debut. The CLB88 blends soft curves and semi-custom construction with spirited performance. Already, the design has earned some accolades, too.
The CLB88 comes in at 88’11” (about 27 meters), with an ample beam of 22’6″ (6.9 meters). That should make travels from, say, the Northeast to the Southeast or along the West Coast plenty comfortable for you and your guests. In addition, your crew can make quick work of getting the yacht from one destination to another, thanks to an anticipated 25-knot speed. Plus, trips over to the Bahamas won’t be a problem, since the yacht draws just 5’5″ (1.7 meters).
CL Yachts (the rebranding of longtime builder Cheoy Lee) revealed plans for the CLB88 at last year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Even though hull number one is not yet ready, the overall design, from Jozeph Forakis Design, earned the team a coveted Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design. Specifically, the award, for cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs from around the world, was in the transportation category. On a related note, the Good Design Awards date back to 1950, established by architectural and design luminaries like Eero Saarinen.
CL Yachts is constructing the CLB88 in fiberglass and some carbon fiber. The megayacht additionally features gyro stabilizers plus an active interceptor system. Your captain can activate these from either of the two helms onboard, one naturally being on the flying bridge.
Speaking of the flying bridge, for you and your guests, the sunroof retracts. Other noteworthy creature comforts include an electrically operated swim platform. Throughout the interior, you can collaborate with Forakis for woods, stones, and the overall ambiance. Expect hull number one of the CLB88 to have subdued tones, as shown above.
