Luca Vallebona started with a design brief for a yacht that would reinterpret industry norms for internal and alfresco areas. The result is the Gravity concept yacht, which distributes some spaces asymmetrically, akin to organic shapes found in nature.
Vallebona enjoys casting conventional thinking aside. In fact, he recently created the Tankoa TLV62 concept design, which similarly embraces asymmetry, to improve spatial relationships. For his current concept, which measures 201’8” (61.5 meters), Vallebona not only offsets aft deck edges and stairways, as seen above, but also creates multi-level decks.
The designer plays with opposing symmetry elsewhere, too. Note the atrium-like opening on the aft main deck, over the swim platform. The central stairs leading up to the main deck connect to a boardwalk-like lounge area abutting the open air. This boardwalk, in turn, leads into the saloon. Furthermore, the Gravity concept employs vertical wood sunshades within the gap, for an additional interplay of shapes and shadows.
Featuring a nearly 37-foot (11.2-meter) beam, the Gravity concept challenges convention inside as well. For example, the galley has a picture-window-like port to one side deck purposely for guests to enjoy seeing the chef at work. Also unusual, the pantries can become part of the formal dining area, via sliding doors. Regardless, the forward portion of the main deck is the crew domain, yet another atypical design, comprised of the crew mess.
Of course, Vallebona does offer some tradition with the Gravity concept. Guest staterooms, a total of six, sit below decks, for instance. The master suite enjoys an aerie-like arrangement forward on the upper deck, with private access to outdoor lounging spaces and the touch-and-go helipad. Vallebona says separation of crew and owner pathways up here was of utmost importance.
Additionally including a bow tender garage, fold-down platforms for the beach club/spa, and two pools, the megayacht should see 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots with Caterpillar power.
